A little bit about Be The Change YYC

We are a Non-Profit Organization, that started as a grass roots initiative in summer (2015) in Calgary, Alberta. This movement is all about inspiring people to be the change in Calgary. Whomever you are or whatever you do for a living you can participate. Our group is all about loving acts of kindness to help homeless individuals and better our communities. We plan to do all these acts of kindness as well. Whether you are at a grocery store, maybe help a elderly citizen? Or perhaps you see a homeless man who looks hungry? Possibly you have been wanting to volunteer in Calgary for awhile? Maybe it’s just paying for the cup of coffee for the car behind you, or picking up some garbage in your community. This is all about showing the love in Calgary and sharing it with our fellow citizens.

Our mission through volunteers is to provide assistance to the homeless by offering basic necessities including, food, water, hygiene, clothing, resource guides to access housing, detox, shelter, and all essential needs
.   We do this every Wednesday from 3-6pm downtown Calgary.    We walk around helping homeless providing outreach starting on Stephen Avenue and moving throughout the core.   Our average homeless helped each Wednesday in 2018, is 150 individuals.

We hope this inspires more to join the movement and be the random act of kindness that can not only change someone’s whole day, but possibly impact a life forever. If you would like to come out and volunteer, or perhaps donate here is a list of items we are always in need of:
– Bottled Water or Juice – Sandwich Bread – Sandwich Meat & Cheese – Socks – Tarps/Ponchos – Hygiene products (soap, body lotion, shampoo tooth brushes, tooth paste, feminine hygiene) – Winter Apparel – Mitts – Toques – Gloves – Hand/Feet warmers – Jackets/Sweaters Thank you so much Calgary, we hope you are inspired to also #BETHECHANGEYYC!

I have wittnest the emional support they give them they feed them and watching them just show the homeless that there are people in this world that do see them and are there to help them in many ways. I am so glad tbat i have the pleasure to see this group grow with such supportive love careing people. Give me faith theres goid in these trying times. Cause we all could end up in there place. And to know theres people like yycbethechange are out there.

When I can, I like to volunteer and help hand out the sandwhiches and stuff. But even when I can’t do that, I know that by just making sandwhiches once a month and dropping them off the night before I know I’m making a big difference. It’s such a small gesture made by me, but makes a huge difference to someone else. Pay it forward – we a big city but really just a small community at heart!

Amazing group! Its a awesome feeling, being able to do something for another person, and this initiative is a great way to start. It gives me hope seeing such an amazing group going out on their free time, to help our brothers and sisters in need. Keep up the amazing work!

I love working with this team they are all beautiful people doing great work in Calgary. I love seeing the smiles that this team helps make and seeing all the happy people as they get to eat, have fresh water, hygiene, and clothing. When your homeless this means so much to them, more than we even know. I Can’t wait for this Wednesday event March 21, 2018 from 3-6pm.
